• Hyperlink checking (Word 97)

Does anyone know of some nifty code or a commercial product for checking hyperlinks in Word? I’ve got about 700 Word 97 SR-2 documents that contain 26,000+ hyperlinks, and it’s certain that not all of them work (either because the authors of the documents haven’t created them properly or because their destinations have ceased to exist). I suppose I could try doing something with VBA, but the task seems daunting and I figured I’d check first for an existing solution.

If it’s relevant, the documents are used to produce 10,000+ pages for an intranet (using a commercial product – “HTML Transit”, version 4.0). I’d prefer to check the Word documents rather than the HTML files.

Sounds like a fun project for the VBA board if you don’t get an answer over here. smile

I also don’t know that checking in Word before converting would help… unless all the hyperlinks are to currently existing web-pages (and therefore not subject to change) the file name will change when placed on the web server, won’t it? Or does your Web-Transit software take care of all that?

If it is not possible in Word, you could check it from the HTML pages, by using Frontpage. This program has this very usefull function to check all Hyperlinks
