I have inherited a document that appears to have hyperlinks or someting similar in it. For instance in the table of contents, I mouse over a word and it will tell me to do control plus click to follow link. When I go to the link (control plus click), I see this type of verbiage – {TC “Cost Analysis” f C1 “2”}.

I have inserted a section in the table of contents. How do I create a link like the one described above that will take me to this new place in the table of contents?

TC fields are manual TOC entries. You click in a location you want to appear in the TOC, press Ctrl+F9 to create field brackets { } then enter something like the field you described (except that the second switch contains a lower case L, not the digit 1.

      {TC “Cost Analysis” f C l “2”} means:
Cost Analysis is the text youy want to appear in the TOC
f C means that C is the identifier for the TOC entries (you could create different TOCs with different identifiers)
l “2” (or l 2) indicates that this entry is for level 2 (level 1 is the highest level in the TOC).

You can create new entries of this form in the document. When you’re done, return to the TOC, click in it and press F9. Select the option to update the entire TOC.
