I am using a page in word for hyperlinks that open all my many folders from 1 place. I can get the hyperlink working fine, with the link data, which sometimes has long paths with spaces. If I close down and restart my hyperlinks are all damaged (except the 4 that point to Internet sites). I have tried quotes, but the parser throws them away. It often discards the absolute part of the link. Some are short paths less than 50 characters but it makes no difference. How can I get a stable set of hyperlinks that work?
Any info gratefully received.
Many Thanks
Mike Trotter

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 10, 2004 at 12:15 pm #875655Thanks for your help and advice. I’ve successfully got the macro ResetLinkPath. I’ll follow up the reference to Hyperlink Base in the Word help.
Many thanks to both of you. It’s good to know that there are so many helpful folk around. I’ve subscribed to the watches since the early days when there was only WWW, despite the fact that yesterday the system failed to recognise me and called me a ‘new lounger’. -

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 9, 2004 at 11:12 pm #875520Hi Mike:
I would add that you ought to look at macropod’s star post on updating links. post 261488.What is probably happening is that you have relative hyperlinks what are working when the File/Open dialog box is set for the folder containing the source & destination file. When you close & reopen Word, you’re probably opening it from either Windows Explorer or from Word’s MRU list. Either way, the File/Open dialog box will point to your default folder & you’ll get an error. That’s why macropod suggested using a hyperlink base.
