This is the last out of three that I’m upgrading. I followed the “How to Directly Clean Install Windows 10 without having to Upgrade First”. I get Windows 10 installed it updates and I copy the GenuineTicket.xml. I get a message that I need to update the NVidia drivers and reboot. On the reboot I get too the first screen the rolling balls go through two loops pause and 2 balls into the second I get a black screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing. I tried repairing the start up and I get a message that’s there’s nothing to repair. I can get into Safe Mode. I tried just installing 7 and get the same problem but I noticed the start windows chord playing. I changed the DVI to D-Sub and I’m good to go. But now when I try to install 10 I have the same problem. A few spins and it goes to a blue screen.

I’d backuped XP using Clonzilla on Parted Magic, late last week, and was going to restore that for the time being. When it gets to setting up System Devices it goes to the same black screen.

Right now I just want to get it registered before the 29th.

Another just noticed. Right before it goes to that blank blue what looks like a command prompt window opens and closes almost quicker than you can see it.

If this is an OEM machine you are upgrading then you should go to the vendor’s site for the Nvidia drivers should they have been OEM modified.

When that is the case and Nvidia drivers have been downloaded from Nvidia, a Blue screen is the usual result.

However, in Win 10’s early days there were some problems with Nvidia and Win 10 with MS downloading their own drivers for them and screwing things up.

Nvidia and MS had to get their heads together on that one, but don’t know what the outcome was.

Have you Googled to see if the Nvidia card/chip is Win 10 compatible ?

I ended up disconnecting the DVI and using D-Sub and it worked fine. Why the DVI decided to get flaky now is beyond me.
