I made the mistake of updating the Windows Notepad app. Now Notepad automatically saves the contents of any new .txt doc I open up. I don’t want this. What could be done, please, about rolling the box back to the former Notepad version, or replacing Notepad with an uber-simple text editor app? Merci buckets for your help!

Notepad Settings, Opening Notepad, When Notepad starts, Open a new window (instead of Open content from the previous session).

Thank you, @b and @cyberSAR. By fiddling around I was able to resolve this on my own before I saw your replies.

Here’s what I did, the result of which I found mildly interesting:
        1. Uninstalled the Notepad app which had been updated via the Microsoft Store.
        2. Associated the .txt files with WordPad. I didn’t like its layout because I want dirt simple.
        3. Associated the .txt files with the ancient (32-bit?) Notepad inside the Windows directory. I didn’t like it because I’ve grown accustomed to white text in a black background.
        3. Ran Windows Restore, which explained after restart that it didn’t make any changes. But it did make changes, because the few recently updated apps from the MS Store wouldn’t run from their former shortcuts.
        4. Downloaded via the web from MS the older Notepad app. I was ready to install it, but,
        5. Before I did, I checked to see if the busted Windows 11 Notepad app might work. It worked. Windows had surreptitiously fixed it. And the original need of opening a *blank* Notepad file from my Taskbar shortcut was solved, too.

*Maybe* once had Windows Restore actually worked during the handful of times I’d tried it on all the Windows boxes I’ve owned, including 7, 8, 10, and 11. But that’s OK and I don’t expect that feature be reliable. For that I 2x daily drive images.
