I have a file that I think is probably spyware – iadhide.dll – in the temp directory, which I cannot delete. Apparently, it is from some company called backweb, according to the properties page. Does anybody have an idea of how to get rid of it; it cannot be deleted because it is in use.

It does appear to be a spyware file. Depending on the version of Windows you are using, getting access to delete the file is going to be different. You can’t delete it because the file is in use, and the end goal is to get you to a state where it’s not – meaning, usually, outside of Windows. Post back with the version of Windows that you’re using, and then we can jump in with more precise steps!

I found an article in the Knowledge base that said if you can’t delete a program or a file because it’s in use, reboot and try again. That releases the file from which ever program was using it.

I hope it works for you as it did for me.

To delete the file that is in use, you need to terminate the process that is running that DLL. It may be as simple as terminating DLGLI.EXE using TaskManager.

HOWEVER, if the file is continually created and placed in the Temp directory on each reboot, that will only be a “Temp” solution. You have to get to the root of what is sticking it in the Temp directory. This may be the LogiTech Mouse drivers, or it may be the DLGLI.EXE file listed above.

Hi GC–don’t know if Lavasoft USA’s Ad Aware would grab this and kick it off, but if not feel everyone should run Adaware–it has a free version.
