I installed IE 5.5 SP1. I can’t access secure sites! My WindowsNT4 (SP6a) start up says 1 service failed (Protected Storage Service). I can’t seem to find any information. Can you help?

Does this tip at JSI apply in any way? (Only thing I could find immediately that might relate.)

Thanks for the lead, but the problem is that the Protected Storage service won’t start, even manually. All I get is a message saying that the service can’t find a file (doesn’t say which file, of course!).
I suspect IE5.5 installation misses out some essential files.

I think I’ve found out what the problem is – somehow I’ve got set up for 128-bit encryption. It may be that I selected a wrong option when installing IE5.5 SP1. The trouble is, I don’t know how to persuade NT4 to go back to standard encryption. NT4 SP6a won’t re-install – it says I need the 128 bit encryption version! Re-installing IE5.5 makes no difference.
      Any ideas?

Uninstall 5.5, In NT that should result in a reversion of I.E. to 4.01, I believe, which does not support 128bit encryption.
