IE 5..00.3315.1000 SP2 is missing from the add and remove folder. Is this problem due to SP2 (WIN2K that is? I updated from WIN2KSP1 to SP2 the week it came out. ) I wanted to do a repair of IE as it was acting a little finicky and I noticed the missing listing. I looked on my wifes laptop and she is missing the listing for IE5.5 sp1. How do I fix this? Any suggestions?

How do I use the Internet Explorer 5.0 Repair Tool?
I seem to recall that there was some issue where the service pack installation would cause IE to disappear but I’ll be dipped if I can remember specifics at the moment. Anyway, armed with the information from this link and Leif, I bet you find your answer. Best of luck.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 26, 2001 at 5:34 am #534737Thanks for the help. I repaired IE with a command prompt listed in the KB article. Unfortunately IE still does not appear in the add/remove list. I believe that the application of WIN2K SP2 removed this entry. My base OS was a disc with WIN2K SP1 Does anyone think the entry would return if I installed IE 5.5 SP1? It isn’t a big deal, just a little annoyance. Thanks again.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 26, 2001 at 5:43 am #534740Not sure.
The system I’m on at the moment started as a basic W2K, then went thru’ SP1 and SP2.
I can’t remember what IE I started off with – probably IE5.0. I’m now on IE5.50 and it is not appearing in the Add/Remove list.(To be honest, I never noticed before – it wouldn’t surprise me if MS are not wanting you to uninstall it. As long as you have the Explore ‘Web view’ option, it may be necessary to have at least one IE version installed, so only changing the version is allowed?)

AskWoody LoungerAugust 13, 2001 at 6:54 pm #537165To date this is the best solution I have found. If you wish to have IE back in add/remove it can be done the next time you upgrade. If you use the IE Homepage (instead of the Windows Update page ) and select save to disk rather than run from current location. After the install, the IE entry will return. As an added benifit all the needed files will be on your computer (by default in “c:Windows Update Files”)so you can burn a disc and not have to be bothered to download that version ever again. It appears that (at least with W2K ) only the files for that (or whichever you choose) operating system are downloaded. I just did this with two laptops upgrading from IE5.01SP2 and IE5.5SP1 and it worked on both.
