While .wmv files play in my browser, .mpg (.mpeg) files not. What should I check? Thanks in advance.

      Hi Adam

      1. Open IE7 | Tools | Internet Options
      2. Click on the Programs tab
      3. Click on the Set Programs
      4. Click the Set program access and computer defaults link
      5. Click the Custom
      6. Go down to the Choose a default media player: option and select “Windows Media Player”
      7. Click the OK
      8. Close Default Programs window
      9. Click the Ok button on the Internet Options window

        Hi Jezza,
Thanks for your fast response, but I have no Set Programs button on my Programs tab, as you can see on the attachment (This is not Vista, it’s XP pro SP2)

Check Windows Explorer Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Make sure that MPEG files are associated with Windows Media Player in the same way WMV files are. The only difference on my XP SP-2 system between the two file types is in Advanced section the “Application Used to perform action” for MPEG has a 9 instead of 7 in the command line.

        Joe,
Thank you for your answer. Checked both in File Types, and as I can see, exactly the same setup. (My Advanced button does not bring up an “Application Used to perform action” box, see attachment).

        Joe,
Went and checked all three types (.wmv, .mpeg, .mpg). No difference. Any other place I should see?

Screenshot edited by HansV to remove huge amount of white space

First of all have you tried with WMP open …tools > options> file types and make sure mpg is ticked (screenshot) you dont say what version of WMP you are using but when I’ve had this problem this is usually a codec problem. do a google for “WMP wont play MPG” and maybe you get some clues. And although I’ve been a fan of WMP in the past I’ve come to the conclusion that there are better media players around now (free).

        Jeff,
Using WMP 11. Will try to look into codecs now; the ticks are there.

P.S. WMP 11 plays mpg if I download them. Just not playing them in the browser

Cant offer any help then sorry. When I click on link in IE7 to play a mpeg or any video file WMP11 opens and begins to play the file whatever type it may be.
