While .wmv files play in my browser, .mpg (.mpeg) files not. What should I check? Thanks in advance.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody MVPSeptember 29, 2007 at 2:54 am #1077399Check Windows Explorer Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Make sure that MPEG files are associated with Windows Media Player in the same way WMV files are. The only difference on my XP SP-2 system between the two file types is in Advanced section the “Application Used to perform action” for MPEG has a 9 instead of 7 in the command line.

First of all have you tried with WMP open …tools > options> file types and make sure mpg is ticked (screenshot) you dont say what version of WMP you are using but when I’ve had this problem this is usually a codec problem. do a google for “WMP wont play MPG” and maybe you get some clues. And although I’ve been a fan of WMP in the past I’ve come to the conclusion that there are better media players around now (free).
