My OneDrive for Business stopped syncing over the Thanksgiving weekend. A pop-up this morning told me to “Have IT setup your account.” It was working; now it’s not.

Tried the troubleshooting tool. It claimed everything was working. Now, the pop-up is gone, but I still can’t link my machine with my account.

Were there any changes to OneDrive for Business (Office 365) over the weekend?

Is it possible that a server update changed settings? Or, did Microsoft replace the OneDrive app?

I didn’t install any updates on my machine over the weekend. (Office 365 and Windows 8.1 updates are set to never check.)

      Thanks

      I haven’t seen anything…

      I found the answer:

OneDrive requires a new app. (Here’s the link to the download site. The link is also on the Office 365 OneDrive web app page, lower left corner.)

      https://onedrive.com/download

This problem may have happened to me because I block automatic Office updates until I know they’re safe.

But, if anyone has any trouble with their OneDrive, they just need to install the latest OneDrive app. The installer does everything seamlessly. Not sure why the Troubleshooter didn’t recognize the app change, though.

      Just figured this out:

The new OneDrive app is now OneDrive.exe and is installed in its own folder, not in Office. So, it must be a separate app.

The original OneDrive (for Business) was Groove.exe, which was still being updated as of the November 1st Office updates (Office 16/365 and Office 2013). For reference, see the latest Office 2013 Update for MS OneDrive for Business (KB3118350). That KB is an update for Groove.exe, which seems to no longer work with OneDrive. The KB was still in the updates list today.

OneDrive.exe (see previous link) works fine and seems to be the new OneDrive app. However, installing the new OneDrive app (OneDrive.exe) does not seem to remove Groove.exe or the old OneDrive shortcuts (to Groove.exe). To make matters more confusing, identically named shortcuts appear in the Start Menu (I’m using Classic Shell in Windows 8.1) and look almost identical. The Notification Tray icons look almost identical. And, even the processes in Task Manager look the same. The only way to tell the difference is to dig into the properties of each shortcut and process and see where they’re pointing. Also, in the Task Manager Details, both Groove.exe and OneDrive.exe show to be running simultaneously, if launched.
