A little trivia that amateurs like me choke on B4 we know the story: (via Susan & Dev Mgr) My Microsoft Firmware driver 10.0.18362.1 DATE is 6/21/01, making me think THIS cannot be good. BUT a Search shows That Ver to be June 2019, and further Search revealed a weird MS way of assigning dates so that I had (14) items with 6/21/01 dates, as will All users for certain drivers & software. Current Ver #s are what will need to be confirmed for decisions on such ’01 items and which are crucial is TBD.

well 20H2 is almost ready to be released to the public, hahaha

I’ll skip the 2004 version on my dad’s Toshiba Satellite C55DT-A laptop running v1909 and upgrade directly from 1909 to 20H2 when that one comes out in late October

In the article you say: “I recommend installing the following Windows, .NET Framework, and Office updates at this time.”

Unfortunately for me, I think your article is mostly for admins who download individual updates and know what they want to do and what they are doing in detail. In contrast, I just want to know whether I should hit the “Resume updates” since I dutifully paused my updates until 10 October just before the first update Tuesday in September (as I do regularly each month).

I’ve even lost track of whether “Resume updates” installs the previews, or not, or just sometimes.

It’s confusing since Defcon is still set at 2 and you, Susan, are always several days ahead of Woody changing Defcon and saying go for it. I trust your expertise and suspect Woody waits until the very last minute unnecessarily, but since since you never actually mention the “Resume” button I haven’t been sure whether you mean me on my 1909 Home version along with the admins.

I also assume that any necessary SSU and NET Framework updates are included with the CU update so I don’t have to worry about which ones to install first since I’m not going the manual route. Is that correct?

Clicking “Resume updates” downloads/installs the available (pending) updates, all of them that are waiting in the wings for your computer. It’s like a “GO” button.

Thanks. Does that include the Preview updates we are encouraged to avoid at the end of the month or only the second-Tuesday CU stuff?

With the pause activated, there’s no list of pending updates and therefore no way to know what’s waiting in the wings until the Resume process has started, at which point I don’t want to risk aborting the process.

Except for .NET Previews, you should not be seeing Windows OS (CUs) Previews in Windows Update unless you click on “Check for updates.”

I never click Check for updates. The risks of doing that have been pointed out here constantly.

Not seeing any of the updates listed is part of the problem. After the fourth Tuesday, are the Preview updates considered “available” and therefore downloaded when I click Resume?

I’m not so much concerned with what I can or can’t see as I am with what actually gets pushed to my computer when I click on Resume.

The only link visible under “Updates will resume 10-Oct-20” is “Resume updates.”

No “Check for updates” and no “Download and install now.”

Therefore my simple questions: Is it OK to click “Resume updates” according to Susan’s advice and do the undesired Preview updates get installed along with the basic SSU, NET Framework, and September 8th Cumulative Update?

Susan’s advice is aimed at businesses that have IT departments with testing ability. If you qualify for these conditions, go ahead an click “Resume updates.”

If you are a consumer, at whom Woody’s advice is aimed, I’d wait for DEFCON approval.

And, I will repeat for the third time (don’t expect a 4th):

Unless their is some feature you want from a new Feature update, I cant personally see the point of updating until the current version you’re on stops being supported
