I have just learned after some years that I am using the older pst file (Outlook 97 – 2002) to store all my outlook data and that it needs to be updated to the 2003 unicode file format. They might have mentioned this at the beginning! (eg when you first open the older file a warning might appear??) Now I am trying to follow Microsoft’s suggestion to use the IMPORT and EXPORT item from the file menu but this item does not appear on said File Menu, chevrons or no chevrons; and apparently it cannot be made to appear by any tricks or maniupulations I have tried. So: dead end. I note in searching the web that at least one other person has had this – in 2004 – but no solution was offered by anyone. Any idea what is wrong and what I can do please?

Have you tried to reset the Menu Bar?
      – Select Tools | Customize…
      – Activate the Toolbars tab.
      – Select Menu Bar.
      – Click on the Reset button.
      – Confirm.

Thanks! That did solve the problem but the weird thing is that I never changed the Menu Bar and I am sure no-one else did either. It must be one of those buggy things that seems to affect this version of Outlook such as the occasional unexplained disappearance of the favourites folders. I doubt that it woud have ever occured to me to do this so thanks again for the benefit of your experience.
