When trying to import names and email addresses entered in Excel into Outlook so as to do a mass emailing we get the following message:
“An ODBC error had occurred in the MSE translator while opening a file
to build a field map. [Microsoft] [ODBC Excel Driver] too many fields
    defined.”
Apparently the fields have been defined in Excel but we must be doing this incorrectly. Does anyone know why we get this message and how we can avoid it? To get around this for now we have saved the Excel file as a comma delimited file and then imported into Outlook and that seems to work. Thank you.

I did this some time ago and had to define *one* name (in XL, Insert, name, define)) that spanned all the cells with information to be imported. Outlook then picked up this range and gave possibility to assign the various columns in that range to various fiels of the contact list.
