I have an application that was built using dbaseIII. I want to use MS office to average and graph data and e-mail to a customer. I used a macro to import the table I need to Access, but the numbers are all formatted as text, and I can’t figure out how to control the formatting when we run the import, and I can’t calculate the average of two text fields. I have tried macros, VBA, and action queries, and I’ve searched all over the web. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

If you can’t control the data types during import then you should be able to use one of the built in data conversion functions in a query to convert the text fields to number fields that you can then perform calculations on. Take a look at the online help articles concerning converting data types expecially the keyword summary. Post back if you need specific help to use these functions in a query and I’m sure someone can give you a nudge in the right direction.
