Importing Passwords into Chrome from FireFox

I’m just trying out Chrome, moving from FireFox 46.01. I can’t import my passwords at all. I’ve removed the master password protector in Firefox, but that didn’t help. I get a message in Chrome that the conversion was successful, but no p/w are moved over at all.

Windows 10, 64 bit.
Latest version of Chrome.

was this the method followed?:

[*]Close any other browsers that are open.
[*]Open Google Chrome.
[*]Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
[*]Select Bookmarks.
[*]Click Import bookmark and settings.

if so, this is for bookmarks. for passwords i’d go to addons and look for “lastpass”. install the plugin and it will allow users to have all passwords available in every environment.

Bookmarks, etc. seem to have converted to Chrome easily. No passwords came over on any attempt, and I tried multiple times.

I’m really not looking for my p/w across multiple environments (and a bit suspicious of it too), and I’m guessing that it won’t be easy to get my FF p/w into LastPass either. Is Lastpass a plugin/addon in Chrome?

maybe i hadn’t made it clear but my answer speaks of bookmarks. i asked the op if the method had been tried and pointed towards last pass as a password vault.

any bother with bookmarks and the other method is to export them in a HTML file and import the html file into another browser.

Within bookmarks and settings — you did have all five boxes checkmarked, correct? If yes, ok, I’ll listen and learn alongside with you.

Yes, I tried it with all five boxes checked and with only the password box checked. None brought over the p/w. They used to be p/w protected in FF, but I removed that to no avail.

I’ve never head of Last pass, but maybe it’s an option. that’s a lot of very confidential info to put into a third party addin….

I always recommend a 3rd party password manager, specifically one that’s portable so you can recover your passwords after a computer crash.

two methods, Install the Last Pass addon into Firefox and go to LastPass Icon >Tools >Import From

from toolbar: Last Pass. >Tools Import >Firefox Password Manager.

Thanks to all who responded. I may end up with LastPass, but as an FYI, I did finally hear from the Chrome community. There is indeed a bug which exists even in Chrome version fifty (50):

I guess I will always prefer Roboform over other 3rd party password managers. I find Roboform to be very convenient to use…at least as long as I use IE or FF or Chrome or Roboform browser on Android. The Roboform browser on Android provides me with a simple way to pretend that I am a PC and not a phone. The mobile version of websites sometimes leave a lot to be desired in terms of functionality. I guess that Lastpass is most talked about because it is free. But the fact that Roboform costs money actually increases my confidence in the product. It provides me with a place to keep not only logons but also encrypted notes. It makes a great place to store personal information. Just be sure and logoff from Roboform before you walk away from your PC or phone/tablet.

Looks like Roboform allows imports of logins from from IE, Opera, Firefox, LastPass CSV file (and some other 3rd party password managers).

It also imports other data … bookmarks/favorites, Outlook contacts, Windows Address Book

Good guess. You can change the data folder to wherever you like, so it’s included in your regular backups.

The ‘ToGo’ version might suit some people, everything runs from an USB drive. From the site:

It’s simple. Go to the Roboform download site, and hit Download. I’ve never even been asked to provide my master password.

The License status is stored in the License.rfo file. This makes it very easy to install new versions and have them automatically re-authorize.

You can always re-authorize your copy via the menus as long as you retain the appropriate information from your purchase. I always keep hard copies JIC! I’ve never had a problem with this process and the one time I did I just emailed them explaining the machine had died and I was moving the copy to a new machine. They promptly reinitialized my Install Count and I was good to go. It’s service like this that has kept me as a loyal customer for years!

Paul, I can only speak from personal experience. On more than one occasion, my PC divorced me and I lost my various toolbars and addons. I have a paid account at Roboform. I simply go to Roboform’s page, click download, and it restores all my passwords and other log-in info without further delay. I don’t remember having to login to the site but maybe I did. It’s simple enough. Roboform accepts whatever Master Password you’ve been using. Good luck.
