My document is set up to mirror margins. I have a style (well, a couple and the same thing happens on all) that indents .5 inch. All works fine except for the first line on an even page. It doesn’t indent. But if a paragraph is more than one line, all subsequent lines indent just fine.

Oh, there’s another problem on the even page, top line. I have a Header 1 defined that has a page break before it. It’s supposed to start at the left margin. This time it’s indented about .25 inch instead of being all the way at the left.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Would you mind posting a sample document? This is a bit of a brain twister without a document to play with.

To follow up, here’s a file that demonstrates the problem. Check out the top of pages 2 and 4.

The problem is the way you have constructed the header on the even pages. The page number is sitting inside a floating text box which is text wrapping. This is impacting the pagination as this object extends down into the body of the document. Fix it quickly by making the text box smaller vertically ie click the frame and drag it’s bottom edge up the page.

To fix the header properly, remove all the floating objects from the header as they don’t need to be there. The line can be recreated to look the same with a lot less hassle (and file size) by using the Format | Borders and Shading and applying a border along the bottom edge of the paragraph. The page number shouldn’t be sitting in the floating box and should just be positioned inline.

That did it! The paragraph format for the character in the text box was “24 pt” after, and that’s what was pushing the box longer.

I had put the page number in a floating box when I was designing the page and playing with other looks. Turned out I didn’t need it and should have removed it anyway, so thanks for diagnosing the problem. I have fixed the document, and am quite relieved. Thanks!
