Insert Graph from Excel File (2000)

I am trying to insert a Graph from an Excel worksheet into a Powerpoint presentation.

I use the Insert | Object | Create from file | Browse to select the Excel presentation. However, I have not figured out how to choose the worksheet that is inserted, or to select the portion of the worksheet that I want to see.

If I resize the graph window, it changes the size of the contents instead of clipping the contents as I would like to do.

I end up with little portions of Excel grid showing around the borders of the Graph.

Any ideas?

Dan, take a look at PP FAQ. That should clear up most things. If there are still problems, reply back and we’ll try to fix them. HTH –Sam

Thanks for the link. It gave me some clues but I still have questions.

The FAQ item 1 says to put the charts on their own chart sheet. That sounds like it is different from a worksheet. I don’t know how to do that.

The FAQ item 3 says to set Tools, Options, Chart, “Chart sizes with window frame” NOT checked. I cannot get this option active (i.e. it is dimmed and not available for change). It is checked on both Excel 98 and 2000.

There are two fundamental types of charts — ones “embedded” on a worksheet and ones that are on a sheet by themselves, this sheet is called a chart sheet. To change an embedded chart, use the Chart > Location menu.

Once you make the chart be on a Chart sheet, you will be able to check this option. –Sam

Thanks. Everything is clear now and performs as I expect.

Hope others that may have ventured into this area of using Excel charts in Powerpoint presentations can now proceed with more confidence.
