    currently on Word 2007.

In Word XP we had autotext entries setup for the company logo. The logo was in two parts. 1st part one main address, the 2nd part was the grey office details.
    see screen capture

In XP in the header on the same paragraph mark, the first logo was inserted. using the same paragraph the 2nd autotext entry logo was inserted. This worked well.

In 2007 I created building blocks for the autotext entries.
at the same paragraph location if I insert 2 seperate building blocks. the result is the 2nd building block remains however the 1st building block is deleted/removed.

    steps to replicate:
    1. open up any document –
    2. either goto the header or on the main body of the document
    3. goto ribbon Insert, Quick Parts, select the 1st building block
    4. if i either use the same paragraph or add extra paragraph marks and add the 2nd building block on the new paragraph mark
    5. result: the 2nd building block is inserted however the 1st building block is deleted.

    anyone else experience this behaviour?

I find it odd that building blocks are limited in this manner?

    many thanks

This is regular Word behavior, I’m afraid. Can you set the letterhead up all in one building block?

      thanks Pam

yes I was thinking I may have to setup as one building block.

I was hoping someone may know if this was perhaps a microsoft bug? or other…

Are you sure that the freshly inserted quick part is not selected before you do the second insert? There is a setting in Word’s Options along the lines of ‘typing replaces selected text’ that might be at play if this is the case.

This may be related to using floating objects in quick parts. Have you tried laying out the items as inline objects inside a table layout.

Do you get the same behaviour when you are inserting the two quick parts in the body of the document rather than the header?

I haven’t seen the problem myself and wonder why you need to carry out two separate insert operations. Can you create a building block that includes both items so you can insert them with a single action?
