A friend is trying to install a printer on a 98 machine, when the cd is inserted nothing happens, when you go into task manager it shows the set up running over and over hundreds of times until you get an out of memory error. Thinking it was a problem with the cd he downloaded the driver off of the net and when he tried to install it the same thing happened.
Tried a plug and play installation and when he tried to print it gave out of memory error. He has another 98 machine thatgave us the same problems. Both computers meet all the minimum requirements for installation.
Has anybody seen this before or if you have any ideas I would love to hear them.
Thanks

AskWoody_MVPDecember 17, 2003 at 11:58 pm #758974Is he using a USB or parallel cable for the connection?
If USB, do other USB devices work? If not, are the USB ports turned off in the BIOS?
Do the instructions state to install software before connecting printer to computer? If so what was done?
Just found following
USB for Mac and PC, front USB port for printing from notebooks and enabled HP cameras, 5 storage card slots reading 11 different formatsIs he using front or back USB port? Note, front is for notebooks and HP cameras.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 20, 2003 at 2:16 pm #759871Thanks for your reply,
The instructions say for the software to be installed and during the install process it says to power on the printer and then connect the USB to the computer. But with the problem we’re having we never get to the point where it directs us to plug in the printer USB, the cd keeps running the setup.exe over and over again. -
