    Help!

I successfully set up two 2nd hand PCs with WinNT SP6 and then went to install Office 97 Pro. Word XL & PPT were OK, but I had an ODBC error with Access 97. I was only using the default settings. Can anyone make suggestions on what to check for so I can install Access 97.

I believe there are some issues with Access and NT as relates to Service Releases of each. I seem to recall being unable to upgrade Access to a specific SR because NT need to be at a certain level. You might want to check the MS Knowledge Base for more info.

You generally need SP4 as a minimum for upgrading Office on NT. SP6 shouldn’t cause any problems at all. You can run into problems with the Windows Installer, though.

I don’t remember the particulars, just that I had problems. I believe I was trying to upgrade Access97 to SR-2 on an NT4 workstation, but it wouldn’t let me. I had no control over the hardware or OS, so I just left it for someone else to worry about!
