Some programs ask during installation if they should be accessible to all users or not, but what about the ones that don’t? How can these be installed so that all users can access them if desired? Make a shortcut to the program’s .exe file for each one or is there a better way?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 5, 2005 at 11:50 pm #971044I haven’t had the experience of having to install programs on a network, but I can tell you that there is an easier way to give them a shortcut than to create one for each user separately. Instead of putting a shortcut in “C:Documents and SettingsUserNameStart Menu” (you may need to change the drive letter), put the shortcut in
“C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart Menu”.
This will show up in each users start menu.
Also, I’m not sure, but I think if you log on as an administrator, you are installing for all users.

AskWoody MVPSeptember 6, 2005 at 12:54 pm #971134There are a couple of things you must be aware of when you want all users to access a program. One, is that all users have appropriate permissions the folders and files that the program will need to read to be able to function. Second, is that if the program creates files that are to be shared by other users that the files are created in a folder that all users can access.
