Internet access disappeared from my PC, recently updated to Win10

I am really unlucky recently – I just wrote a long letter describing my issues with Internet and Network connectivity on Win10 and when I wanted to add a smiler, ALL DiSAPPEARED!!!I am just writing on an 8 years old laptop with VISTA because my relative new computer PC, a couple months after uppdating to Win 10, SUDDENLY lost internet connectivity! At the beginning was messages all the time changing, under some hours computer showed that is Internet acces or NO internet acces, but in both cases, NOT ANY WEBSITE was able to be displayed. TROUBLE SHOUTING said *The site is on line, but did not respond for connecting attemps*. I contacted then BT (provider) support and it occurred, that INTERNET ACCES IS VERY WELL IN MY OLD LAPTOP, BUT NEVER CAME TO PC! Then they said it is problem with my PC. But WHAT? I tried to disconnect [disabled] WiFi and connect router to PC with the cable. I have got all messages that it is INTERNET ACCESS, but still NOT ANY website could be displayed! And then my wireless printer became offline and DOES NOT PRINT. So I disconnected the cable and tried establish again WiFi connection. it did not helped for printer and I have got ‘No Internet access’ and connection for router was LIMITED. I tried to make new connections. So I have got messages: Connection failed with error 651. The router has reported an error. The internet connectivity was unsuccessful. Windows can’t identify the problem. Windows Network Diagnostic said: No issues detected. But Published Details said: Detects problem with connectivity. On SETTINGS when I TRIED CONNECT ROUTER, i’VE GOT: Can’t connect to this network. I made full scan with AVG, no threads found. Other programs for malware scan are not possible to update or they work only with internet connection. Can’t uppdate of course without internet. It can be virus, but how to detect it without internet?
I am DESPERAT! HELP!! My son electronic specialist could not help me by telephon and he lives VERY far from me. I don’t know anybody around who knows computers, I live in Wales in the small town, all are simple people who have no computers or idea about them. Somebody can help me here? I did everything, switched off computer and router many times, nothing helped. Exactly in Identity I did not, I will try that, thanks. I am not sure where is taskbar..

For us to diagnose your problem please run the following and paste the results.

1. Open a Command Prompt. Right click on the Windows flag in the bottom left corner and select Command Prompt.
2. Type this command, or copy and paste. Paste in a Command Prompt is by right clicking on the top border and selecting Edit > Paste. Command (after the colon): ipconfig /all > %tmp%IP.txt & notepad %tmp%IP.txt

I did it exactly like you said. After ENTER nothing happened, the Notepad page never appeared!. I can say you, that when I made those things that jwoods told me, I could not use the colon [:] because when I did, THEN nothing happened. When I did not put colon, then I have got answers. But I did not tried your advice WITHOUT colon, because I was afraid to do things worse.

You should copy the text and paste it into a Command Prompt box. Saves typing it and getting the characters wrong.

OK, Paul, of course I typed IN Command Prompt, but I could not copy it from your post, I have internet only in laptop and the problem is in PC.. I can only type by hand.

Even I would get Notepad with text, I can’t post it here – it is no way I could copy text from PC to laptop and post it here! I could do it if my printer worked, I would at least print it out and copy by hand to the laptop, but printer is stubborny OFFLINE!! And does not take commands from PC.. And copy by hand 2 times is really hard to do.. I experience total disaster now, I am really unhappy without PC and printer..

PS. I tried this again, really exact, and I’ve got answer: The system can’t find the path specified.
The filname, directory name or volume label syntax is not correct.

On Command Prompt black window was showed C:WindowsSystem32_ When I did not put the colon after that and typed commands directly, came massive texts, mostly saying that they can’t do command because many things, one of them was that LAN is disconnected. I wrote above in my post, that I disconnected, after unsuccessful try, the cable between router and computer and tried establish AGAIN Wireless connection, which resulted with that was NO Internet access. Only after the last command [ipconfig/flushdns] I have got the message, that it was successful. After that what I did still was no interent acces and not any website was available. So I run the same commands, but I put colon : after System 32 and command after the colon. Then NOTHING happened on the black Command window, but on the Internet icon was showed Internet access, and Internet & Share Centre showed THERE IS INTERNET. But it happened EXACTLY the same as before – NO ANY WEBSITE was able to display, DESPITE internet access was showed.. so I came back to the same. My son, Master of science in electronic said, that he never meet such issue, when there IS Internet access but websites can’t be displayed. When I click on NAME of router it sais ‘limited’, I understand that connectivity is limited, why??

This isn’t related precisely, I’m offering it up only because of what you said about limited connectivity. Yesterday, when I got home from work, I found I had no internet either (I have Comcast here, also known as Xfinity). I first went through the routine of disconnecting cable, router, modem, waiting a bit then reconnecting those devices. And I had internet for a few seconds, but it then slipped to limited. So I called Comcast. There was an error in my modem’s boot file (apparently something they did across the country caused this to happen to many people) so the service technician had to reset my modem from her end, twice, before everything came back up normally. So, that might be what is happening with your system, it may need a reboot from your ip – the command line advice above was good, but sometimes it really is someone else’s fault. In the archives here, there is a column by Fred Langa about creating an “elevated” command prompt shortcut, right on your desktop so you don’t need to type in and run as administrator. I’ve had that on my desktop for a long time and it continues to work with Win 10 – it would be worth your while, if you have the paid version of the newsletter, to search that out and create a shortcut like that, just for ease of use. I hope I find your problem solved when I post this, but if not, your IP really might be the ones who can help you from their end.

I phoned my Internet provider 2 times and they rebooted my router, but it did not helped, and because I have had Internet connection working well on the laptop (in the same network), they said it was not their fault, or router fault, it is something wrong with my PC. They could not find out what, they adviced me to get help from a professionalist technician, which I can’t find here in the small town in Wales.
I can’t get such shortcut on my desktop which you recommend because I have not internet to download it!!

I have read the article, it only showing what is in SETTINGS, which I know myself and I have examined myself all this SETTINGS on my PC, but many things I have no idea HOW SHOULD BE, what is well and what is wrong! I did not know if I should use PROXY and I see that I would be not able to create Proxy server connection, I have not required details. I don’t know either what is VPN and can’t add it as well. I thought that after i disconnected the cable, Ethernet disappeared, anyway I disabled it. I tried make new connections and THE MAIN PROBLEM IS, that even it sais that Internet access IS, so I can’t open ANY website! And with the same router and the same provider I have NO PROBLEMS with internet on my laptop – on other floor of house! Only because it is so old (8 years, VISTA), there are some issues with IExplorer or some websites which don’t go well with IExplorer 9 so it is very unconvinient to me, also physically (not good location).

jwoods, thanks, I will try Identity, but all is so unconvinient because from laptop I can’t print, however printer is now offline anyway, and I was not able to change it.. I must write by hand your instructions and go the second floor to PC.
Win10 it was free update on Win 7, all was very good and working well a couple of months. My son sais that I should make now new clean install of Win10, but I am too old and sick, I have no stamina for that.. and where from to get Win10.. no, I am not able to do this.. This problem with PC costed me already 2 days of heart palpitation, believe me, it is horrible and you feel really bad..

Yes, nejlika means carnation, in Swedish! Thank you very much, the picture is beautiful! But how I can use it? I tried before to put my own picture at my name, but I couldn’t find up how it goes.
I was now on my PC and it is everything as before. Internet access coming and goes, no idea why, but if it is access or not, not any website is showing up anyway..
My laptop is for me terribly nuissance in many ways, so I am not happy if I can’t use my PC.. my son is comming to me maybe in December, he lives very far from me and he opts for clean reinstall Win10, which I can’t accept.
I tried what you said with Identity and I’ve got Windows Network Diagnostic, which I have run dozens of times before and now, from many other spots. It sais all the time the same: The remote computer isn’t responding to connection attemps on port 80. Windows couldn’t find any problems with the firewall in your computer.
Other information there: Wireless Network Connection Status: Ipv4 connectivity: Internet; IPv6 connectivity: No network access
In Settings – Proxy: Automatically detect setup is on, Use setup script is off.
Now I will see, if I find it, how look settings in my laptop with internet acces working well. Maybe something I discover how it should be on PC..
All people who have connectivity problem on Win 10 (but my son has not, on several computers!) should stop use their computers, as you advice me? It MUST be a way to sort it! By, if somebody find out something different how to solve the problem, please contact me!

At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

I made all this again, and I wanted now give you more details what I have got. I can’t resign trying solve this problem!

After the FIRST command (..winsock reset) came:
Resetting Global, OK
Resetting Interface, OK
Resetting Neighbor, OK
Resetting Path, OK
Resetting failed
Access denied

Maybe here is the problem?
Anyway, NOW it is Internet access in computer, the Internet icon is like it should be, but still NOT ANY WEBSITE can be displayed. Troubleshooting for website in detail said: The Internet connectivity was unsuccessful.

How it could be, that Internet acces IS, but there is not connectivity with WEB?? (But from time to time internet acces disappeares!)

Worse is, that I hate talk by telephone because I probably hear not best, anyway I mostly can’t understand what somebody sais and it is an ordeal, because I ask and ask all the time ‘WHAT DID YOU SAY?’. Remember, I am not English person.. I can try anyway.. Cheers.

Just type IPCONFIG /ALL and then tell us what the “IPv4 address” and “DHCP server” entries are – there may be more than one.

I did it and I’ve got all page of text. As you wanted, I quote what was about DHCP – enabled, DHCP Server: 192.168.1.254
IPv4 – 192.168.1.64 (Prefferred). This is a number IP of my router!

I examined also very carefully what is written in Network Diagnostics debugreport. It was ENORMous much, I quote only very few:

“Windows detects problem with connectivity.
Result of diagnose: There may be problem
An error written by a cmdlet into the Power Shell error stream
Root causes were found: 1ARoot cause.
Another computer on the network has the same IP address.
Change the TCP/IP settings for the n%InterfaceName% adapter
This computer might not be able to connect to the other computers and devices
The adapter is currently set to use a specific IP address that is incorrect, rather than obtaining an IP address (I could not find where I could change it!)
%Interface Name% doesn’t have a valid IP configuration
Problem with wireless adapter or access point
Reset wireless adapter” (it was done 2 or 3 times)

Maybe you can learn something from that..

PS. The big problem is now also with the printer, which is OFFLINE and does not print both from PC and from laptop. Troubleshooting sais that printer is not ON and not connected. It is ON and connection should be wireless as before, but obviously does not work.. It would help me a lot if I could at least fix this printer.. It has happened when I tried ethernet connection with a cable. Now is wireless back in PC computer, but obviously does not work either for PC, or laptop (for printer), however for laptop works internet connection! Network seems to work, and PC can see the content of laptop, but laptop can’t see content of PC. Windows (Vista) can’t access PC, it sais! Also I could not put a picture from PC to the laptop via network, even I could see laptop pictures on network in PC. Acces was denied, I needed permission, but HOW I CAN GET PERMISSION??.. I describe those details because they can say something about what is wrong with the network and network connectivity.. but not to me, maybe to you, or somebody.. A.

To work out where the conflict occurs, turn off all computers and printers, then turn on the PC that has problems and see if it will connect to the internet.
If your PC now works, turn it off, turn on the printer and then turn the PC back on. Does the PC still work?
Next turn the PC off and turn on the next device. Repeat until your PC stops working.
With any luck everything will behave without any additional effort, if not let us know.

I have only 3 units – PC, laptop and printer. Should I turn off and on all 3 ? I did it certainly when went to bed.. but not many times.

Maybe it is good, but how I can do something on PC which has not Internet working if I can see all advices only on laptop on botten floor of house and I can’t put laptop near to PC, technically very difficult, no space.. I am old and disable, physically rather not possibly.. To do restore I must see all this guiding all the time, which I can’t.. and I can’t print from laptop, printer is offline, does not work.

CordovaMan! You are genius!! I have done restoring 3 times, always not successful, but when I choose the point for restore the date of installing Win10Update (and disabled AVG), restoring still was not FULL, but I HAVE GOT INTERNET BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just now I am writing from my PC!! And printer prints as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy!!!!!.. Thank you, thank you!!! Today I will probably sleep better! Now the only problem is that printer does not want to print from laptop, and it was time, very long time ago (maybe 3-4 years) that from the same laptop the same printer wanted to print.

I had the same problem on win 8.1 , printer not working , no internet, even though it said every thing was ok. So finally I reinstalled windows and it worked as it should.

How have you reinstalled the Windows? I have done only UPDATE to Win10, has not any CD with Windows.. How could I reinstall Win10 without working internet connection??

Turn off the laptop and printer, then run the network troubleshooter on the PC and select repair.

I did it many times – no change. There is Internet access on-off, but when is on, still I can’t get any website and still is connectivity problem with network. And still printer does not work. PC (this without network connectivity) sais, that printer is NOT CONNECTED and OFF, but it IS ON and connection should be wireless. It is very difficult for me to connect printer with a cable because off space (technical problem to access) and my disability issues. Troubleshooting sais that I should turn printed ON, when the printed IS TURNED ON! And network troubleshooting sais that it is network connectivity problem and is not fixed, that’s it! When I check network status, all devices are IN network, and when I click on laptop icon and want to see it’s content, I can see it. But when I check network status on laptop, it can see all devices and PC, but I can’t see PC content, it sais that I have no permission! And when I click on printer icon, it sais that printer IS NOT CONNECTED and OFFLINE. But printer is ON.

What it is ‘ímage backup’?
I have always connected external hard disk with backup program, but it doesn’t make backup of system, only of my files. I have got also CD with recovery made after requirement from computer, but for Win7 or maybe it is just for HP product, I don’t recall. What should be backup-ed?

I recommend Macrium Reflect Free, it’s easy to use and works well. With Windows option I found it to be less use full but that’s a long story. Not sure if you need to start another thread but just ask for instructions on Macrium as its quite easy to explain. I worked it out on my own and I’m not much good with this type of thing.

Device (separate disc) calls Slim Plus U, Seagate, but how calls the program it uses I don’t really know. It back up all non-system files, can back-up PC, Mobile and can back up the chosen Specific Folder from any computer you have, save and share my social media. And of course restores a backup.

That drive comes with Seagate Dashboard, which only backs up what it thinks is your data. That probably isn’t all that you need backed up.
You can use the Windows 10 System Image Backup utility to create the backup on your Seagate disk.

Yes, I think it backs up all I need because I made some ‘tricks’ in settings and made some files accessible for backup..

It still doesn’t create an image backup, so you can’t recover from a major Windows crash or hard disk failure.
You have an external disk, now add an image to it.
