      It looks pretty scary, indeed:

While serverless solutions [i.e. ‘using someone elses’ servers’ = ‘in the Cloud’] are more convenient for enterprises, IT teams have often adopted these cloud applications without deeper scrutiny and without involving their security colleagues. So in the new year, we can expect to see more cyber attacks here, such as DDoS attacks targeting serverless computing environments.

      Office 365?

From the above points, I can see that protecting data must be a top priority for enterprises in 2021. Unfortunately, the ongoing rollout of 5G and the IoT is opening up more gateways for hackers, who are setting up increasingly intelligent attacks and automating them thanks to ML and AI technologies. So, we won’t see any easing in terms of ransomware, data leaks and cyber espionage in 2021.

Not scary, just more of the same. These have long been issues for enterprise admins.

For ordinary users you are most likely to be a victim of a phishing attack or ransomware.

As always, backup, use AV and never give out your details / logon info.

      cheers, Paul

Due to coronavirus, there has been, and will be, a large increase in Internet usage and social applications. There will also be an associated large increase in cybersecurity issues with bleeding edge.

I have been holding off on icloud since april and was about to activate…mebbe not. Anecdotely, I read somewhere awile ago that smartphones esp Iphones were more secure for financial , privacy etc than laptops. Any info on this? I am more comfortable w/ laptop but phone useage is not out of the question- yet.

NORD is leaky,- when connected to nord, attempt amazon login, they send a notification to my cell asking if its ok, I say yes, they send a link which I tap and the ligin is ok’d. BUT If I click on details on the phone page with the link, there is my actual ip-not the Nord IP!!! nervous about his and intend to try and let them know(as if they dont already) Perhaps I’ll blow off the remaining 4 yrs and shop around. groan

I do use 3rd party AV (NOT defender) – Bitdefender

        Comments/advice?

PaulT: “Not scary, just more of the same.

I do find scary the implications for political stability, national security, critical infrastructure operation (large “Cloud” services used by governments and private businesses, nuclear power stations, power grid, water supply, military equipment and armaments maintenance, banking, financial trading, etc.) and the largely computerized workings of private businesses. But wide scale attacks by criminals to extract money of home users like me with ransomware are also in the menu. Or being unwittingly made to join some large botnet to be used in very large service denial attacks against bigger fish than home and small-business users.

As well, of course, as more of the same. Such as stealing the important personal information (e.g., credit card data) in millions of accounts.

You need to turn your personal paranoia level down several notches.  🙂

        cheers, Paul

Where is the setting for that in win10? 🙂

Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean bad people (big brother?) aren’t looking over my shoulder unbeknownst to me.

or I didn’t get this old being naive.

I do get your point though….
