Just updated my Samsung Spin 7 laptop (2016 vintage) to Windows 10 22H2.  First did an upgrade of existing installation.  I can access the Internet and Bluetooth, but then noticed that, although I can run Windows Update, I could not log into OneDrive (getting error message to effect there’s no Internet connection.)  BTW, running laptop off of WiFi at work.  I then did a fresh install of the Windows 22H2 image from the MS site and again, can access the Internet for web browsing and Windows Update. But still can’t connect to OneDrive and now can’t even login to my MS Account.  Any idea what is going on (not my primary laptop but curious.)

Can you access your Microsoft account through a browser?

Yes, I can do that.  I have access to Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Windows Update.  Will not access OneDrive login, nor will it let me switch from local user to my MS account.  For curiousity sake, have downloaded 21H2 ISO and will do a fresh install of that to see if problem goes away.  I did also run Intel’s driver update assistant to make sure that the wifi and BT drivers were up to date.

If you can access your Microsoft account through a browser the account is OK. Double-check the credentials you are using for your Microsoft account on the PC and OneDrive.

There is no problem with the MS Account.  When trying to log using Edge (which brings up a dialog box to login to MS account), I don’t even get to where I can enter my login credentials. It just gives error message 0x80190001.  I can download Chrome and login. I can pretty much do anything on the Internet (including Windows Update), but nothing to do with being able to login to MS services.

Well, tried fresh install of Windows 10 21H2 to no avail.  I can get Internet connection (web browser, Windows Update) and Bluetooth to work fine.  However, cannot login to OneDrive nor can I log in to my MS Account.  Laptop isn’t that old (although doesn’t meet the W11 standards).  Thinking of trying a USB wifi antenna to see if makes a difference.

Cannot reach account.microsoft.com through either Chrome or Edge.  Can go to other websites just fine.  Am at work and have no problem connecting through our ISP, but can go to any other non MS site just fine.  No clue.

Try this at a Command Prompt: ping account.microsoft.com
      You should get replies.

Has work added a firewall rule to prevent access to account.microsoft.com?

      cheers, Paul

Am trying right now with my new laptop at work, accessing on same wifi network.  Zero difficulties accessing Microsoft account, onedrive, etc.

Have no idea why this one specific Samsung laptop is having difficulties.  I may try tomorrow disabling the internal wifi adapter and using a newer USB adapter to figure out if is somehow hardware related.

And if I can’t figure out, then guess will load Linux Mint on that older laptop and give up!

A couple weeks ago there was a problem with Microsoft Account Sign in Assistant.  Check Services and see what its status is.

I was getting a bunch of errors in Event Viewer from  Modern Deployment-Diagnostics-Provider and the only way to stop it was to disable Microsoft Account Sign in Assistant.

Some apps need it I think.

You can check to see if it is a DNS problem, by configuring different browsers to use different secure DNS companies. Leave one browser unmodified. Then make a different browser use Cloudflare (for ex) and configure a third browser to use Quad9 (for example). All desktop browsers support secure DNS.

You can verify the DNS change is working using assorted testers here

      https://routersecurity.org/testdns.php

Not saying the problem *is* DNS, but it might be.

Also, from a command prompt do: nslookup account.microsoft.com

to see if it returns a valid IP address.

Eureka!  I typically do static IP at work; in this case was just going with whatever the DHCP settings provided on our Comcast router.  Tried the computer last night at home and no problems.  Just changed to manual settings for IP address and things are back to normal.  Thanks for the suggestion.
