Even clicking on the RSS link is giving an html code pageload – no use at all, like it normally is.

No trouble at all in Pale Moon’s native RSS reader, and no problem creating a new subscription.

Yes, it’s working for me. I’m an avid RSS blog reader and yours is a favourite. The most recent entry is this one (asking if RSS is working). I’m using Newsblur as my reader.

ighome is having a cert issue right now.

Likely that’s the cause.  A non-secure connection with a valid cert, but not binding properly, which most browsers will disallow other secure content to embed.

Well, I really don’t know what an RSS feed is, but I’ve tried to access the link provided in #2279607 via Edge, Chrome and Firefox and all I get is a page of gibberish – which I assume is not O.K. Windows is not giving me the option to access the link via Outlook or I would. What you don’t know you don’t miss, in my case, but I thought the info’ might be useful.

It is useful. You need to install an RSS feed reader. There are many. Unfortunately, the one I use, igHome, isn’t working with AskWoody.

Same-igHome not working for Ask Woody- developer seems to have disappeared.  Got it to work om Net Vibes but I find it hard to use.

I read the Newsletter in my Mac, where I get it via email same as the Alerts. I can login into AskWoody and read whatever is posted here and comment on it, just as I am doing right now here. I’ve never used  the RSS feed coming from here before, so I have a question: What important or interesting information am I missing?

Ex-Windows user (Win. 98, XP, 7); since mid-2017 using also macOS. Presently on Monterey 12.15 & sometimes running also Linux (Mint).

A long time ago, maybe a year or so, Firefox dropped its live bookmarks feature. So I started getting the Ask Woody RSS feed by email with Feedblitz. It comes a few days after the posting. But it’s helpful.

Works like a charm with FeedDemon. For me, RSS is the most important way I read news, tech and other web sites.

What difference does it make whether one receives the rss feed or not? Thanks to anyone what takes the time to explain this. I am no being ironic. Or sarcastic.I just want to understand what this is about.

Really Simple Syndication (RSS)

Allows a news/content aggregator program or site to pull recent headlines from multiple websites to present to you a single page of what’s changed/new. Each headline is presented as a link to that site and article.

During my morning coffee — can get an overview in one place on what’s going on across multiple interests — without clicking into each site.

Thanks! Great article. I find the notion of RSS aggregators particularly interesting I might try one of them sometime. I suppose that one could put AskWoody’s RSS in the aggregators list? With my thanks also to NetDef for his concise explanation.

I use Thunderbird Mail as a news reader.  With new editions of Firefox, it asks me if I want to open an RSS summary in Thunderbird Mail, but when I click on it, nothing happens.  I can  also save the file, but when I do that, I can’t use the file.

I can click on the RSS symbol in Opera, and get an XML file, which when I save the URL, I can paste it into the feed input in the news manager of Thunderbolt and add the feed.  This is the way it used to work in Firefox.  There are no error messages.

I finally determined how to use the Thunderbird news reader with Firefox.  Right-click on the RSS Symbol in AskWoody and other sites, choose “copy link location” from the context menu, then paste the result into the URL input box in the manage subscription section of the feed reader in Thunderbird.
