Home from work, fed and watered, and catching up with daily tech forums , I stumble upon this articlefrom The Register.

Are my eyes deceiving me or does paragraph 5 of the article offer something of a sugar coated pill?

It seems to contradict an account of the event here at Yahoo at the 12:30pm update, but I guess we will find out one way or the other soon enough.

I think you just misinterpreted it. The “reimagined” Start button is just the flat thing you get when you move to the hotspot in question.

      I think Ruirib is correct.

Aha, yes….previously that did not have the full right click functionality described in the Register.

I’ve just installed a package of updates on my Win8 Ent trial laptop and the Start Tile now does have those right click functions: starting with Programs & Features and running down through Device Manager etc, to Desktop.

Weird, it has been there for a long time, for me.

It’s there on my release preview version.

        How odd is that?

I booted up the trial laptop to check current functionality and a right click there only had a limited context menu. I then completed the pending updates and re-booted. After the re-boot, I found a much larger set of options. Before installing the updates I also installed several updates for apps too, but I don’t think that would have had an effect.

Maybe it’s getting late: perhaps I need to stop reading and pour myself a wee nip of The Macallan.

Perhaps more than a wee nip! I have had the larger Power Users Menu since day 1. In fact if I could find the How To Geek tip, there is now a way to add items to this menu. For example I added Notepad:

      32221-EditPowerUserMenu

      I found the article here.

I think I just found the reason why I misinterpreted the article. Quite apart from the journalistic style of The Register calling it a button ….. I think I slid off the edge of the silly thing just as I right clicked – bringing up the taskbar context menu rather than the start context menu.

Of course the article in The Register was completely the real reason for egg on face, nothing to do with having a “senior moment”.

        Now where’s that glass…

There’s an even more ‘interesting’ article from The Register called Microsoft’s ‘official’ Windows 8 Survival Guide leaks...
Warning – may contain British humour and irony!

Plethora means a lot to me.
