After reading all the posts in the last month about potential update problems, I decided to wait and see if Microsoft fixed things.  I even shared my procedure for resuming updates and quickly pausing for 5 more weeks once my initial pause period was due to expire.  My intent was to do that this weekend before February’s Patch Tuesday.

I work with two Windows 10 computers, and thought I had the end of the pause as February 11 on both, but this morning I saw the “Windows will restart out of active hours notice”.  So I braced myself, clicked on Restart Now, and went to get some coffee.  Everything is fine, but I feel very foolish–not only did I not follow my own instructions on time, but I didn’t backup everything as I usually do.

I looked at my update history and all I see is that the cumulative update was successfully installed.  With Windows 10 Home how do I see the individual components like KB5034441?

With Windows 10 Home how do I see the individual components like KB5034441?

      Open Run box (WinKey +R)
      Copy and paste
      ms-settings:windowsupdate
      Press Enter key.
      Windows Update will open
      Scroll down to
View Update history and select to open
      Look under Quality Updates.
The latest updates are listed first and each update has its KB #

BTW My January updates including KB5034441 installed without a hassle.

Also scroll down and look under ‘Other Updates.’

No KB5034441 listed.  Just the cumulative update for Windows and the cumulative update for the .NET framework.  So I didn’t get it, which is fine since I didn’t want it.

Settings > update & security > view update history > uninstall updates – Shows KB5034441, if installed

      Win 11 home - 24H2

Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Security and Maintenance > View reliability history

Click on the date column of interest to see updates that failed or succeeded, here are a couple relevant ones I found:

      Problem: Failed Windows Update
      Date: 2/5/2024 1:47 PM
Description: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200B: 2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441).

      Problem: Successful Windows Update
      Date: 2/5/2024 9:24 PM
Description: Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: 2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441)

      HP Compaq 6000 Pro SFF PC / Windows 10 Pro / 22H2

On Thursday I unpaused Windows Update on my computer running Windows 10. I did not click resume updates but instead waited for Windows to update whenever it decided to do so. On Friday Windows downloaded and installed the January cumulative update KB5034122, the .Net update KB5034275 and the malicious software removal tool.

Like WSBirdLady I do not see any indications anywhere that KB5034441 downloaded or installed which is just fine by me because I didn’t want it.

Yesterday, February 10th, using WUSHOWHIDE, I updated my Windows 10 22H2 computer. I installed the Malicious Removal Tool KB890830 and the Cumulative Update 22H2 KB5034122. Everything went fine. I then paused Updates for 35 days.

This morning, February 11th, as I always do, I double-checked to verify I paused to 35 days, which I had. However, when I clicked on “Uninstall updates”, UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS BK5032005 had been installed today, Feb 11, 2024, but it does not appear in “View Update History”. I had done nothing else after booting this system except to check that I paused updates, so I don’t know how this update was installed.

Question #1: Why does this update appear in “Uninstall Updates” and not in Update History?

Question #2: Since updates were paused for 35 days and I was on metered connection, how did this update occur?

Question #3: Should I uninstall this update?

Thank you ahead of time for your response.
