Java has been upgraded to V22. This update is considered a critical update. (see the latest version of the newsletter) Be sure to include both the 32 Bit and 64 Bit downloads if you use both browsers. These are 2 seperate downloads/installs. 64 Bit version, and 32 Bit Version. (Note: These links will automatically open to the correct version for the bitness of the browser you are using, so you will have to open each browser (32 Bit and 64 Bit) independently and download/install each independently.

Susan Bradley’s article in this week’s Windows Secrets Newsletter about Updating Java or Dropping it is especially relevant!

I am only aware of a single website where Java is required – for the most reliable UK broadband speed tester!

I have to agree with BATcher and Bradley… why bother?

        Guys,

If you use the Arachnophilia HTML Editor it is written in Java and thus requires the JRE {Java Runtime Environment}.

Just for info only for those who do care. If you do have Java installed, be sure to update.

      Pogo games also require java.

Not all of us work all the time.

I have to believe there are quite a few sites still using Java. It is free, is updated, so why not keep it. By the way, the USPS also uses Java to print shipping labels. PayPal shipping utilizes a version of USPS for same. Both require Java. Hmmm, I guess there are some very useful sites still requiring Java.

And it is not just some web sites that need Java (and yes, such sites are becoming dinosaurs because there are much better ways to do the same thing nowadays), but many applications also need it. The Adobe Creative Suite comes to mind. And a lot of enterprise software needs it. I use it all the time, but then I am in the enterprise software business.
