If you don’t need Java, uninstall it.

      Thanks..

If you find an app or site that needs Java, you will know soon enough. Because of the security issues that seem to follow Java, unless you really need it, dump it.

@Banyrola – I’ve taken to uninstalling Java on my systems. If I find I need it I’ll download it and install it. So far I haven’t needed it and it has been at least 3 months.

Well Joe, what is it used for ??

      I’m not sure..

If was often used in banking sites but many of those have migrated away from Java and use other technologies now. If you stumble across a site that requires it the site will let you know.

Well, can it just be disabled in Internet Explorer ?

    • #1361180

Sure. You can do that too.

I’ll try that first and see what happens.

      Thanks.

Java is very difficult to disable in IE (as IE is effectively tied to the OS, it can be fooled into passing on a request directly to the OS to run Java), try removing all the plugins/files listed here http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread//144363-Should-I-delete-Java-from-my-computer-Windows-7-SP1?p=881080&viewfull=1#post881080 and then remove the Java file associations in Windows. Much easier to fully uninstall Java.

far better off to just install java altogether. also check the WindowsSystem32 folder or the WindowsSysWoW64 folder for the deployjava1.dll and npdeployjava1.dll files. if those two java plugin files exist in those Windows system folders, delete them.

If you have the latest Java Updates, you can easily disable it in all browsers (Including IE) by going to Control Panel > Java > Security tab and unchecking “Enable Java content in the browser”.

You can then run for a couple of weeks to see if you need Java. If nothing shows up, you can then uninstall Java.

A lot of on line game sites us Java.

I already removed JAVA from a vista machine I was working on remotely and also on my windows 7 computer and no problems so far..

Jerry, game playing was of no concern because I never do online gaming..

Sounds like you’re good to go then.

I have another machine with XP and got rid of it on that too.
