GuestFebruary 25, 2013 at 10:27 pm #54907The deployjava1.dll & npdeployjava1.dll files can show up in more places than you mentioned, so it is best to use a search program, like the excellent, and free, Everything, to find where they all are. I found them in three places on my main drive.
I never tried JavaRA.
It’s easy to keep many programs & utilities up to date using the process at ninite.com

GuestMarch 4, 2013 at 1:55 pm #54911Woody–
I have software on my system that came from Logitec, 6 years ago. It supports their Harmony Universal TV remote. They have old Java .dll’s bundled in with their software, which is no doubt written in Java. Do these .dll’s represent a security threat, or are we only concerned with the jre’s used by browsers and such? Thanks for all you do.

GuestMarch 5, 2013 at 2:33 am #54913Ah, it seems Logitec has solved my problem for me. I’m upgrading my XP system to Win 8, and when I downloaded the updated TV remote software, I discovered it’s now Java-free. Seems The Word has been spreading for some time now.
Before retirement I was, among other things, a Java developer since its inception in 1995. The technology has had more than its share of security issues over the years.
Keep up the great work.
