I’m trying to take an internal slice of a 3D cube and shade it. To create the slice (a parallelogram), I only knew to draw the four lines, then perform an Operations > Join on them in the hope of creating an object I could then shade. (See the attached file). So far, I’ve had no success in getting Visio to recognize the slice (outlined in blue) as a single object that can be shaded. How do I do this?

How did you create these lines?

I just drew a rectangle in Visio 2003 using the line tool, and it automatically took on my default line and fill as soon as I drew the fourth line.

I would create the slice by editing the points of a closed shape such as a rectangle.
      1. Open the Drawing Tools toolbar by going to View>Toolbars>Drawing (or click the button in the Standard Toolbar). This toolbar has the two buttons on it that you need for the next steps.
      2. Select the Rectangle Tool and create one on the page.
      3. Select the Freeform Tool (squiggly line button) and click each corner in turn and drag each to the required locations.

You may want to make the shape partially transparent to show the other objects better.
