I’ve recently been informed that the tool has been upgraded to version 1.5.2.349. I pray i’m not repeating this information.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2006 at 8:06 pm #1034195Relax…… hahaha…. here’s a link: Macecraft Software. Just click “jv16 PowerTools 2005” on the left. RegSupreme is the Registry cleaner part of the jv16 PowerTools suite. I cannot verify it is identical, however. As to jv16 PowerTools itself, I use it often and have for years, even from the days when it was free. I used to beta test this application for the author. It is without doubt the best Registry utility anywhere and safe to use. Fred Langa also attests to its superiority over any other and as to its ability to remove “bad” Registry entries safely.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2006 at 9:12 pm #1034210I still use the old free version of jv16 (and the lighter/ older RegCleaner component) and they seem to function correctly on XP Pro. Are there any significant enhancements in the newer $$$ versions?
Alan
BTW, links to the old

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2006 at 5:38 pm #1034339For what it’s worth, in my experience, the latter (newer) versions are much faster than the last “free” version. Also, the “safety” of Registry cleaning has been much improved as well; not that there was a problem with the previous version(s). Personally, when it comes to cleaning the Registry I do prefer to have an updated utility that has included routines that take into account Microsoft updates, new and/or updated applications, etc. which add entries the older version(s) might not recognize.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2006 at 8:09 pm #1034198Jerry there are several reason why I didn’t provide a link. I assumed that regular users of the tool would know where to find it. Also and perhaps the most likely reason is, I don’t know how. I’ve been sent instructions on how to do this, just haven’t got around to it yet. I just wanted to provide a heads up for all you regular guys and gals.
I really think it would be much easier for people like me to type a URL and have it appear as a link, like most websites do. Just my humble opinion which doesn’t count for much.
I hope this answer satisfies you.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2006 at 8:17 pm #1034200Destructions for two ways of including a link in messages here: (Note…. substitute the “” brackets with “[ and ]” brackets)
1) Display the actual URL: http://www.somewebsite.com . . . results in this http://www.somewebsite.com[/url%5D
2) Display a title that’s clickable: Name goes here . . . results in this Name goes here
Give it a try….

AskWoody LoungerOctober 18, 2006 at 8:53 pm #1034209The place for most practice is the Test forum. I believe you’ve been told already about Alan’s StaPost here ( post 438,749 ) and it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to setup your browser to help you in this.
Failing all else, all you have to do is visit the site in question, highlight its URL and hit Ctrl-C. Then, when making your post, do a Ctrl-V and put in front of the address and after the address. It ain’t difficult. I’ll be waiting for you in the Test board…

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2006 at 3:36 pm #1034327I will try to get it done soon, I’ve visited the post that you pointed me to and followed the posts that they led me to and printed every one.
I’ve even downloaded and save to my desktop all the files included as attachments. If your instructions work, I will remove them (talking about being confused, those start posts are way over my poor, little head).I needed something simple and explained in plain English and written for someone not to swift, yours fit the bill.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 20, 2006 at 10:25 am #1034485That’s all fine, Gloria, but I think you may be thinking that it’s more difficult than it is. Here’s a scenario. In IE, create a new favorite, any URL, we’re just looking to get a favorite that you can modify. Now click the favorites item on the command line and right-click the new entry you just created, selecting properties. In the URL box put the javascript you see in my screenshot. (This text can easily be copied from Alan’s StarPost.)
While you’re in the Properties screen, switch to the General tab and change the name of the favorite to anything you like, as I did in mine.
