<h3>Hi:  I am new to askwoody and this is my first post. So, I hope that this is the correct forum for my problem….</h3>
I am using Version 3.7 of Karen’s Replicator on a Windows10 desktop PC,  two external USB harddrives and USB thumb drive(s).

My question is:  To what extent is this software capable of  drilling down the File Manager’s Directory Tree when copying files over to my USB drives?  I have the “Include Sub-Folders” checkbox checked at the Edit Settings dialog screen.  However, it seems that the s/w is capable of including only the files that are within the first generational subfolder and goes no further; is that true?

My Documents folder, for example, has many child files and many child subfolders. Those Documents/Subfolders have subfolders and files within, and those Documents/Subfolders/subfolders have many files within, and etc.

So, I am looking for a way to get Karen’s Replicator to copy All data within the Documents folder over to the USB drive, including the child folder, the grandchild folder, the great grandchild folder, etc.   What I have been getting under Documents on the USB drive is only the subfolder’s name; and This folder is empty at the first generational level.

Is it possible for Karen’s Replicator to copy Father/Child/Grandchild/Greatgrandchild files to an external USB harddrive?

Here are some links that may help. It works for Win10 as well. You should use the latest version (3.7.0.6 dated 4/24/2020, I think) that was updated after her death.

I do a daily backup to a NAS, and at least once a month, to the external USB Drive (not thumb drive) to which I backup the full drive image.

        PK:

TNX for your info. I now have version 3.7.6 installed and running.

I have also downloaded Directory Print vers. 5.4.4; it is installed but not running as yet.  I do get a popup saying Loading Previous Print Settings but then it seems to halt and nothing further; the app is not opening to screen.

The files do showup in C:\Program Files (x86)\Karen’s Power Tools\Directory Printer; clicking on the DirPrn.exe file only shows that popup window.  Any ideas about what is going on?

I will reboot the PC and see if this issue clearsup.

          I haven’t used Directory Printer.
I do use Karen’s Replicator all the time.

      Hi vwa2rsxb:

I use Karen’s Replicator v3.7.6 to back up my entire C:\Users\<myusername> folder at least once a week to an external USB backup drive and it backs up every level of subfolder and all files within those subfolders.  That includes every  subfolder and file located in my hidden C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\ folder.

See the attached images of my Karen’s Replicator settings and an example of some of the subfolders and files backed up to my Verbatim external USB backup drive for files located on my computer’s hard drive at C:\Users\<myusername>\Documents\PC Troubleshooting\UCheck.

Are you certain that you’ve chosen C:\Users\<yourusername>\Documents as the Source Folder in your backup job settings (i.e., and not the \Documents folder of some other Windows user profile) and that your File Filter is set to back up the default All Files (*.*)?

        Hi vwa2rsxb:

… and further to my post # 2712377, if the settings in your Karen’s Replicator backup job look correct then have you confirmed your USB external backup drive has enough free disk space to save a backup of your entire C:\Users\<yourusername>\Documents folder?

I am running your suggested replicator job (similar) now to my WD HD.  Will take a while yet to complete.

My external USB HDs are Seagate 6GB and WD 2GB.

You may vahe to expand the Global Exclusions for the AppData folder, as the open files in there will cause errors. The are mostly Microsoft stuff. It backs up Firefox data (IF Firefox is not open) and other non-MS files. You will get errors if you don’t. Look through them to verify they are things like MS caches, logs, etc that you don’t need to backup anyway. They can be ignored or handled with the Global Exclusions.

Attached is an example from my Win8.1. You can see some of the differences from the default. It’s in the AppData folder.

          Terabyte, not GB.
