AskWoody PlusSeptember 21, 2019 at 3:17 am #1959606Hi all this is my first post and hoping you maybe able to help me.
I also can’t get KB4512486 to install though have installed all the other August updates with out any problems, though I had to do those in isolation from KB4512486 or nothing installed, so something in this update is causing the issue.
The install completes normally and I reboot the computer which restarts and it gets as far as “Configuring Windows Updates Do Not Turn Off Your Computer” and that’s where it stalls. It won’t proceed past that point even though I’ve waited 30 minutes or more. At that point I do a hard restart into Safe Mode and it automatically reverts the changes for the failed update. I have KB4474419 and KB4490628 installed.
I’ve disabled my Webroot Antivirus and Malwarebytes but everything I’ve tried ends the same.
I have 2 Windows 7 multiboot machines with the same issue.
Any idea’s on a fix for this?

any errors in the event logs to work from? and you have the items from PKCano’s post above? and you have KB3133977 bit locker patch installed? you can download the standalone KB4512486 from AKB2000003 (search the lounge box) to your desktop and try it after checking your event logs…

GuestSeptember 21, 2019 at 12:55 pm #1960037PKCano and others are right about KB4490628.
A poster ER 2019-08-26 at 15:06, at Born’s site, blamed WUSUS.
“Secondly, I did not have KB4490628 installed, this did the trick.
After a short search WSUS was to blame. This update was reported installed, but really was not. After installation, the rest worked fine again.”https://borncity.com/win/2019/08/14/windows-updates-kb4512506-kb4512486-drops-error-0x80092004/

GuestSeptember 21, 2019 at 4:19 pm #1960299Thanks for the responses. I’m from the Group B camp and only install the Security only updates.
Event Logs are showing Error Ox80070643 for the KB4512486 update installation. I have KB3133977 installed, I tried that before I posted here. I have the SHA-2 patch KB4474419 v2 dated 8/12) listed as installed but not V1 dated in March. I have downloaded the earlier version of KB4474419 but get a message when installing saying it’s “not suitable for my computer” so not sure why that was.
KB4490628 is listed as installed
I have run the update troubleshooter and nothing found, also System File Checker and all good there also. So any further suggestions on what to try? Thanks.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 22, 2019 at 5:14 am #1961164Hi PKCano and thanks for the advice which seems to have fix my issue. I followed your instructions and installed KB4516655 and then installed KB4512486 which finally installed though it did take the best part of an hour Windows to configure the update.
So all good now and thanks to all who responded.
