kb4601319 was one of three available updates last evening. I updated kb4601319 on two computers. At 20% of the update a popup asked to restart which I did. I never saw an update that paused at 20% install and asked to restart. The restart took a while and when it finished it said one of the updates is not available at this time. Seems it was kb4601319.

It did not show up in my installed updates and was not offered when I refreshed the update page. However, my computers this morning show I am on 10942.804 which I believe means it is the new version after kb4601319 updated. This happened on both of my computers. My 3rd computer updated kb4601319 with no problem.

At this point I don’t know if it installed, reverted, failed or I have to do a manual d/l and install as it is not offered through windows update and windows update shows up to date. Very confusing. Curious if anyone else had this issue. Thanks.

I have encountered the same issue. OS build is 10942.804 but KB4601319 is not listed in history but not offered with an Update Check. Response is that the system is Up To Date.

Looking at the update log it appears that the update failed and the job was aborted but the system restart was completed. It’s very confusing. I have another system that updated normally.

I did notice in the log that some driver updates also failed but the are offered as Optional now.

        Not sure what to do.

That patch was released in Feb and we are on DEFCON 2 for Feb patches. Wait until more have tested it.

Clear out c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ and the history will be updated.

I had a similar issue.  I’ve explained it here https://billitjobs.blogspot.com/2021/02/when-installing-microsoft-update-make.html     It shows up in updates that can be uninstalled, but doesn’t show in the installed list!   This is a 2014 HP Envy with a new ssd installed in 2016 so it is an older computer and once in a while odd stuff happens.  I have a 2016 ASUS laptop that does show the update properly.    As I note on the blog post, I clicked “upstate and restart” before making sure the install had finished.  I wish microsoft wouldn’t lure you into doing that.  See also the comment after this for a user with a similar problem.  Will there be issues in March update?

It is not in my list of installed updates. I was confused as the windows 10 version number is the most current as noted above.

    • #2342766

Update KB5601319 shows as ready to install, restart required.  We have selected update and restart 3 times, as well as update and shutdown and a hard poweroff/poweron.  The KB3601319 still shows ready to install.  It does NOT appear in update history as having completed.

      • #2343256

Same as last two replies, clear out c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\

KB4601319 failed to update on my old HP computer but the version number itself did update to 19042.804.  On the other hand, my newer Lenovo computer was successful in updating to KB4601319 with the correct version 19042.804.

I too suffer from KB4601319 syndrome presenting in that certain if not all apps open only to close within 10 seconds.

I deleted it and turned off/paused the auto-install updates EXPeRIEnce. Sorry…

This is caused by Asus GPU Tweak, all versions.

        • #2343915

I can confirm this was a fix for me. Closed Asus GPU Tweak and my video game opened fined. Started Asus GPU Tweak while the game was playing fine and it closed almost immediately. Just going to uninstall KB4601319 for now aswell.

Which apps?  I’m on 2004 on several machines and have deployed the patch and not seeing that.  What antivirus are you running?

      2 Windows 10 Home v2004 (One x64 laptop & another x86 netbook)
      ————————————————————-
      FWIW,

Made Macrium Image System Backup before installing the following patches via Windows Update. Clicked “Resume Update” while still under “metered connection” status:

      1) Windows 10 Home v2004 x64 (Build 19041.746)
      ———————————————-
      a) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for x64-based Systems 5.86 (KB890830)
      b) 2021-02 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4601050)
      c) 2021-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4601319)

Windows Update downloaded and installed b) and prompted a restart. Both a) and c) were still in “Pending Download” status with “Download” button below.
After the restart, proceeded to install both b) and c). A second restart then brought the build to 19041.804.

      2) Windows 10 Home v2004 x86 (Build 19041.746)
      ———————————————-
      a) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for x86-based Systems 5.86 (KB890830)
      b) 2021-02 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x86-based Systems (KB4601050)
      c) 2021-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x86-based Systems (KB4601319)
      d) 2020-11 Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x86-based Systems (KB4023057)

Windows Update proceeded to download and install b), c) and d) first while a) was still in “Pending Download” status with the “Download” button below.
Then clicked “Download” button to prompt the download and installation of a). After all were installed a restart brought the build to 19041.804.

To uninstall d) KB4023057 proceeded to uninstall “The Microsoft Update Health Tools” version 2.7.0.0 under Setting > Apps.

Installation of the patches for both machines was without problem with KB4023057 taking some time to move pass the 20% mark while installation was in progress.

All is well and they are running fine for the past 2 days.

      Hope this helps.

Simply delete the contents of c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ to resolve this, the Restart required prompt will be resolved, and the Installation history will by updated to display the kb4601319

I confirm the same occurred to me when doing a normal Windows Update. Stuck at 20%, then had to restart. Restart took longer than previous patch reboot cycles. Additionally, showed “downloading 0%” after restart in updates for the same patch -KB4601319. Update History (the new one), doesn’t show the patch, but “Uninstall an Update” from control panel shows it listed. Had to delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download as well for this to stop showing as “downloading” in Windows Updates.

I would gather that this problem wouldn’t occur if I used SCCM / Software Center to install the patch as we normally do for our organization.

I’m also having an issue with KB4601319. As soon as it installs, my system won’t recognize my HP officejet pro 9015. Says driver not available or can’t install or something like that. After HOURS of troubleshooting, figured out it’s this update and if I uninstall it, printer works just fine. Thoughts?

      Thanks

Hi my pc has recently applied KB4601319 and KB4598481.  My pc acts as a server for Sage 50 Accounts since these updates I am able to access this app but my colleagues can no longer connect to my pc via the ip address?  Any ideas?

      • #2351586

We need exact details about how others connect to your PC to be able to comment.
Are the other machines on the same network / across the internet?
Do the others map a drive / use a network path?
Individual user accounts or a single?
        etc

        cheers, Paul
