    Greetings All –

I’m not sure if this is the correct place for this issue or not.  My laptop’s system is WIN 10 Pro, Version 1909, updated through March.  I use KeePass as my password manager.  One of the things I use my laptop for is experimenting with stuff before installing on my main PC.  I had been using Edge as my default and only browser for a long time.  I decided to use Firefox for awhile, and now recently have downloaded the new Edge and am using it.  Every time I switched default browsers (and I switched back and forth a number of times), KeePass would dutifully fall in line and open webpages according to default.  But now the system is stuck.  KeePass opens pages with Firefox, even though the new Edge is listed as the default.  Firefox settings also acknowledge that it is not the default browser.  As always, any suggestions are appreciated.

Any chance your copy of KeePass has somehow come to have its “URL Override” feature set up, either for individual entries or globally?

Changing the URL Handler (URL Override)

I have been considering keepass but is it truly this arcane? I visited the above referenced site and well, it seems very …..intense!

When I referenced the optional feature above, I was kind of grasping because I’d never encountered that behavior myself. Adding, managing, and using passwords aren’t difficult.

There might be other tools that are easier to use, but years ago when I was looking for one, there weren’t as many choices. I quickly got used to the basics, and didn’t need to make a change until Windows was no longer my sole OS. And that led me to KeePassXC – fewer features, but still has everything I need.

The problem has nothing to do with KeePass.
Edge has not converted all URL handlers from Firefox. Go to Settings > Default Apps and make sure Edge opens all URL links.

Of course not. KeePass is simple in it’s initial use, but can be made to do complex things if you want.
Why don’t you open a new thread about upgrading your existing password manager and we can discuss it there?

      cheers, Paul

Thanks to all who weighed in.  I went into settings and changed the items that weren’t set to Edge.  Still no luck.  I decided to uninstall Firefox.  That gave me the answer.  The webpages still attempted to open with Firefox, and the error message said that KeeForm couldn’t access Firefox.  I had installed KeeForm’s program in an attempt to improve KeePass’ form filling process.  I then installed the KeeForm plugins for both Firefox & Edge.  Apparently it prefers Firefox.  Uninstalling KeeForm has returned the system to normal.

That still leaves me with what I feel is a cumbersome process for buying stuff with a credit card.  Other password managers I have used (Roboform & Lastpass)  have done a nice job with this, looking for the specific information as indicated by the form field and entering accordingly.  With KeePass, I have have to either drag & drop individual fields or perform autotype for individual fields.  I was hoping Keeform would accomplish this seamlessly.  In all other things, I really like Keepass.  Some things like sequential login pages were difficult for me using Roboform.  I also didn’t like it it when there “for life” program proved otherwise.  I also really like having my database sitting on my computer rather than in the cloud somewhere.  I also use Keepass for keeping various notes that I want to be very secure. If anyone has found a way to make KeePass automatically fill out webforms, I’d appreciate it.  Thanks.

Filling out credit card forms automatically is bad, m’kay. You should be in complete control of those things and drag n drop from KeePass does that easily.

Thanks Paul.  Can you tell me why.  My intentions would be to have the form just load without sending, look things over for accuracy, then click submit.  Is something else going on in the background that makes that a bad idea?

A phishing site visited unintentionally may autofill and there is no need for you to press Enter for the data to be sent to the phisher.

Alos, different CC forms will have different arrangements and are unlikely to fill in the same way. Trying to get every form right is more effort than a bit of dnd.

      cheers, Paul
