I am creating a series of formulas, and need to keep one value constant throughout the whole system. How do I make a particular value remain constant, when all other values need to change through the different rows? For example, I am using date calculations, and need today’s date to remain the same through out the whole system. But when I click and drag, every value changes by one according to how many rows I drag down. Please help. Thank you.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 21, 2005 at 4:15 pm #923819If you always want the current date, use the formula =TODAY(). If you want to enter a fixed date, there are several possibilities:
– Select a column of cells, enter the date, then confirm with Ctrl+Enter. This will enter the value in all selected cells.
– Enter the date in the first cell, then drag the fill handle with the right mouse button. When you release the mouse button, a popup menu will be shown. Select Copy Cells.
– Enter the date in the first cell, copy it, then paste into the cells below. -

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 21, 2005 at 4:18 pm #923821Use Absolute values.
In your sample, click in to A2 in the formula and touch F4 on the Keyboard. You can also edit the address by hand so that it reads $A$2.
That means always in column A always in row 2.
If you want to also drag the formulas down, use $A2.
Alway column A and adjust the row number relative to the formulas position.
