These problems can be very difficult to diagnose, especially on a system that has never worked at all.

Are you sure that this is just a locked keyboard?
Could it be that the entire PC has hung?
Does the mouse stil work when the keyboard is locked?
Have you tried stripping the system down to the bare minimum components needed (just one DIMM, no PCI cards etc.)?

Not sure of anything right now. I only got to formatting the hard drive and the mouse did not move before or after I started.

I agree with Stuart, you need to tell us a little more. So, you’ve got this “brand new” PC and when you turn it on, do you have a Windows CD in the CD drive? If the machine DOES successfully let you enter the BIOS, can you “navigate” around in there and the keyboard work OK? There could be some setting in the BIOS that you need to change prior to letting the Windows CD run, like boot order or something else. I think you should stop at the BIOS and see how the keyboard is reacting before you try to run a Windows install from the CD.

I have a Windows XP in the CD drive and it is set 1st in the boot order. Once I start the computer I can get into the BIOS and change things around using the keyboard. Not sure what the keyboard is set at right now, but I can navigate around. Will check the boot order again just to make sure.

I have not tried using just one dimm, but will try it tonight.
