I’m interested in LibreWolf.ย  How secure is it?ย  My main browser is Brave and my backup browser is Firefox.ย  How does LibreWolf compare to these two for security?

Shame they sold out, classic default browser was good for the padawan’s out there…then they married to an ad company that caused a browser divorce here.

Thanks Alex5723 for the link.ย  It was very informative.ย  I always go to RestorePrivacy.com but LibreWolf was not reviewed there.

I have another question:ย  it is recommended to have a few browsers to compartmentalize different functions, e.g., banking, places that require passwords, scrolling the internet, etc.ย  However, if I clear the cookies after each of the above functions then would using the same browser for all functions be ok?

      Thanks for your expertise!

Alex5723 – Sorry I don’t understand.ย  Deleted?ย  Are you saying that if I clear the cookies and caches, etc.ย  each time, it is not necessary to use different browsers to compartmentalize?

      I deleted a replay.

I use Chrome as my default browser. Firefox ESR is my backup browser in case I encounter a problem with Chrome.
Edge is installed as part of Windows but never used.
I use Chrome for all activities including banking. Data collection by Google is disabled (the parts Google let you disable).

Deleting cookies and cache is just one part of privacy/security.
Your browser sends a lot of data about your system to any site you connect to .

Your OS telemetry collects and sends data. Installed software collect and sends data. Your router may expose data…

I tried installing LibreWolf on my Mac.ย  I used the Disk Image and when I opened it I got the following message:ย  “LibreWolf.app cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified”.

I saw “Home Brew”ย  but cannot see how or where to install by this method.

      Any help is appreciated.

New to portable apps. Not very tech savvy.

I have Librewolf 98.0ย portableย version installed ย in a user โ€œc:/My Portable Appsโ€ folder.

How do I update to ver 100? Librewolf site shows a portable zip file for the new version.

Thus, once I download zip file, what do I do with it? Do I open it? Then what? ( Iโ€™d like to preserve my bookmarks etc in my existing ver 98). Thank you!

Create a folder under โ€œc:/My Portable Appsโ€ named Librewolf.
Put the .zip in the folder and extract it to that folder.
Right click the executable and add it to the menu, pin it to the taskbar, send it to the desktop as a shortcut, or whatever makes it easy to open.

Portable Apps run out of the folder they are in, and do not install. Try Help-About Librewolf (similar to Firefox) to update.

Thank you. The steps you listed are the ones I already performed initially with version 98 portable in March.

Iโ€™m just wondering how to update and preserve existing bookmarks, profile of the 98 version? (Librewolf Help says nothing about updating their portable version. They state โ€œyou have to manually install the new setup.exe againโ€ for any new version. There is no update option.

In opening the portable version zip file from downloads, it gives me a folder โ€˜librewolf-100.0โ€™.

Do I simply move the new โ€˜librewolf-100.0โ€™ folder overtop of my existing Librewolf folder โ€˜librewolf-98.0 ( path c:/My Portable Apps/Librewolf/librewolf-98.0)? Or is there no way to preserve my 98 profile with this specific portable app?

(All my other portable apps, ie libreoffice portable, preserve data when upgrading). Many thx

Doesn’t seem to be a way to update an existing LWolf portable, retaining bookmarks.

I ended up exporting bookmarks to html from older portable v98, then imported into portable v100.0-3. Will have to remember with each update! (Will assume itโ€™s the same with Ffox portableโ€ฆ)

Thank you very much PKCano for your excellent summary of initial install steps.
