I was recently asked to create some Access (97) reports from a Paradox program. Although I, apparently, have the driver loaded to access Paradox, Paradox does not show up as an option when I try to link to the tables. When I try to access them through ODBC, it shows that the drivers are loaded but won’t let me access them through ODBC. Help says that I have to select them from the drop down box. A check of the Microsoft support site was not helpful. Anyone out there have experience with this?

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 7, 2001 at 1:13 am #1775165A client of ours researched this in early 2000 but discovered through their research and conversing w/Microsoft that no direct export or link is viable with Access 97. For their case, they found exporting to dBase IV then importing to Access 97 was very successful. Don’t know if it would work in your situation but if you could export to dBase IV from Paradox, the link to the dBase IV file you might get away with it.

AskWoody LoungerJanuary 7, 2001 at 3:25 am #1775171Here’s what I’ve gotten to work. I don’t have the time to research this further. I loaded the Data Access pack from the ValuPack folder on the Office 97 CD. Paradox now shows up as a choice for importing or linking. However, if I use a Paradox 7 or 8 table, the driver doesn’t know how to handle it. The driver on the ValuPack is for Paradox 5 or older.
I don’t know if that helps any, but I figured I would let you know what I ran into. (Using the AutoIncrement field in Paradox causes it to be saved as a version 7/8 Paradox db file)

GuestFebruary 28, 2001 at 7:45 pm #1779403Reply for Access 97 only. Just some simple requirements. Most of the limitations are due to Access, not Paradox.
1. The Access ODBC drivers are 8.3 nameing convention!
2. Need to have that primary key on the PDOX table. You should have no problem linking. You don’t even need the BDE on the machine with Access doing the linking. The BDE is the engine for PDOX so it is already on that machine.
