I have some large spreadsheets that are still being updated, and will end up as appendices in a Word document.
Since they are not final, Paste with Link seemed like an ideal way to include the data, except for one small detail: There does not appear to be any way to specify that the top row repeats on each page (e.g. Word’s Table Layout > Repeat Header Rows) on the Excel data. This means that each time the data is updated (and I’ve set it not to auto-update), I need to fix the headers.

I have tried setting the page layout “Rows to repeat at top” and the split windows — neither setting in Excel makes a difference.

    Any suggestions?

How about a kind of “dumb” work-around? What if you created a table in the header in Word to match the headings in Excel?

Hmm.. Do-able… I’d just need to start a new section for each such table so that the “real” header row on the Excel sheet uses a first-page header in Word, or else not paste/link the header row at all.

Still, it’s less than optimal: a change to the Excel sheet’s structure means I still have to manually muck with headers. This is yet another place where Microsoft falls down on consistency between Office apps (top of the list includes how to put line breaks in a paragraph/cell/presentation outline item)
