I am having trouble linking Outlook 2007 contacts to a Access 2007 database.
My contacts are used primarily for recording mobile numbers, which constantly change. New contacts are regularly added and current contacts often move away. Their data is left in the database but a check box (named “Deleted”) is used to filter the current contacts datasheet. I would like to somehow get Outlook and Access to talk to each other so that the changes I regularly make in Access can be updated to Outlook. If it is possible to do so, I can then synchronize my mobile phone to Outlook’s contacts using Nokia PC Suite 7.0.
The problem is, I want to have Office 2007 links up and running before installing Nokia’s software but I cannot seem to get off the ground. Here is what I have tried so far:
Using Access’ External Data tab, I clicked the More drop down list and selected Outlook Folder. In the Get External Data- Outlook Folder window, I selected “Link to the data source by creating a linked table” I tried 3 approaches in the Link Exchange/Outlook Wizard that both produced undesirable results:
1) Selecting Address Books>Outlook Address Book>Contacts creates a table that produces the following error when attempting to enter data in Access:
“You do not have the necessary permissions to use the object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you. (Error 3033)”
Outlook Contact entries are not updated to Access
2) Selecting Address Books>Outlook Address Book creates a table that is not editable in Access
3) Selecting Personal Folders>Contacts creates a table that is editable in Access but new records in Outlook Contacts folder contain phone numbers, etc. but no first and last name. When double click a contact, it fires up a new untitled e-mail message rather than a contacts data entry window. However, new contacts entered into Outlook appear in Access. Edits in Access to First Name or Last Name fields do not appear updated in the corresponding fields in Outlook but they do appear in the File as: field and are updated into Outlook’s First Name and Last Name field once additional edits are made in Outlook… Go figure?
Anyone out there have any suggestions how to successfully link Access to Outlook so that updates are available at either end?
I am running on Vista Ultimate SP1; Both Outlook and Access are installed on 2nd physical hard disk (D:). Database is installed on C: drive in a folder registered with Access as a Trusted Location.
