Locked in Select Position (Excel XP)

I have a strange situation. Only sometimes when I go into Excel it seems as if when I try to type in a cell, I can’t its like my cursor is stuck in the select position and I cannot get to any of the menus or get it to go into a cell so that I can type. What happens is I have to ctrl alt del and end task to get out of it, then when i go back in its okay. HELP!!

Try rolling and pressing the “scrolling button” on the mouse. It sometimes sticks.
