When I boot into Windows 7 I am greeted by my userpic which I have to click to continue to boot to the Desktop. I am not using a password so I’m curious why I have to go through this little irritation. I’ve briefly looked at the User options in the Control Panel and I don’t see anything that would eliminate this step.

    1. Is it possible to eliminate this step so on bootup it goes directly to the Desktop? (Auto logon?)

    2. If so, how is it done?

Does Tip: Auto-Login Your Windows 7 User Account help?

Yes, that did the trick. I had read that “tip” a few days ago but didn’t think it applied since it mentions using “passwords”, which I don’t have. But reading more carefully this time, I see it applies even if you don’t use a password. Bottom line… it worked!

        THANKS

Just one, Dave. I am the only account on the system.

Glad you found a solution, Jeff, but the mystery remains. I am the sole user on this Windows 7 computer, with no password, and I boot directly to my desktop without resorting to any special tricks.

Did you perform an in-place upgrade or a clean install? An in-place upgrade probably would have carried forward your login settings.
