Looking for a video player that will play forward and backward

Anyone know of a video player that will play the video backwards?

I use an editor where I can play it forward (L key) or backward (J key) back and forth until I stop it with the K key.

The editing program is not suitable for just watching a video because the preview window is very small and can’t be enlarged, but I would love to find a simple player that will play both ways.

Do you want to just reverse the video, or do you want to scan back and forth though the video? For reversing the video, commercial video editors should be able to do that. In Pinnacle Studio, you apply the Speed video effect, and select Reverse in its configuration box. For scanning back and forth, I don’t know of any player that does that.

Hi Poindexter,

QuickTime will play a video clip backwards. I just tried it and it worked for me. Here’s a short clip that shows how. You have to play the whole clip forwards until it ends, then hold down the shift key and double left click on the video, and continue to hold down the shift key. It will play in reverse. OK for a short clip, but not very convenient for a long clip.

I want to be able to scan back and forth. I work with videos between 30 minutes and 4 hours long and I know approximately where I can find something I’m looking for so I can move the cursor near what I want to see. It would just be very helpful to scan backward as well as forward to re-view a particular section.

Having to play the entire clip before reversing would not be helpful because of the lengths involved.
