Looking for VBA Book

Hi List,

I am a Cobol Programmer that has picked up a contract to write a system in Access/VBA. I am looking for help in learning Access/VBA and want to find a book on the order of “Access/VBA For Cobol Programmers”. Some sort of methodology and vocabulary translator so that I might be able to understand the vernacular of the VBA world in relation to what I have done for over 30 years in the mainframe CICS/Cobol world.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Charlotte of the Access Board suggested that I post here.

I doubt that you’d find that type of book.

A good book to start with is Steve Roman’s. It’s from O’Reiley and is titled something like Access Database Design and Programming.

For serious Access work, you also need Ken Getz’s two volume set Access 2000 Developer’s Handbook Set (ISBN: 0782123716). There will be a version for Access 2002, I know not when.

And O’Reilly has :

ADO: Activex Data Objects (ISBN: 1565924150)

DAO Object Model : The Definitive Reference (ISBN: 1565924355)

Howard, thanks for the references. I have a “‘C’ for Cobol Programmers” which got me through the transformation to “C++” when I needed it. I was hoping . . .

If you already know C/C++, you might want to look at
C++ for Visual Basic Programmers (ISBN: 1893115763).

Reading that may give a good feel for VB.
In effect, VBA is a core set of VB thingees plus an application specific application specific object model.
