When I had time to write poems – well, verse – I found a DOS utility kind of program that wrote small* textfiles: you opened it with a filename and every save became a separate version that had the same filename but the program automatically added a sequence number. It was very easy to look back several saves and see whether you were on the right track – or going round in circles.

It had one of those clever names that related well to its function, but I can’t remember it. Can somebody please tell me its name, or, better still, suggest a Windows program that can do the same thing?

    * (ie with no header overheads, unlike the first character in my present version of Word, which makes a file of about 20 KB).
