Lost WiFi connection after mysearchdial removal attempt

I tried removing mysearchdial and then completely lost my laptop’s WiFi connection.
(I’m sending this from an RJ-45 desktop computer connection.)

System Restore was turned off as of last August (possibly another story).

What will it take to restore my laptop’s WiFi connection?

Scanning with the free version of MBAM and AdwCleaner should ensure there is nothing left or of anything else.

Toolbars don’t normally knock out means of Internet connectivity as they want to redirect you to other sites, but from that article, MySearchDial looks to have the potential to be really nasty and as viruses can knock out services, it’s best to check that the relevant ones are all started.

Go Start, type services.msc then press Enter

Their startup type should be Automatic or Manual

COM+ Event System
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wired Autoconfig is set to manual.
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations only)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista/7 wireless configurations only)

If a service is not running, click on it to highlight then click on Start (top left).

If it fails to start then right click to open its Properties and check the Dependencies and that each of them are running.

Any of the Dependencies that you can’t find in Services (if need be) can be found in Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices/Non-Plug and Play Drivers

In Device Manager also check for yellow alerts against the Network adapters and Non-Plug and Play Drivers, the latter would probably relate to the Dependencies if there are any.

It also won’t hurt to open a command prompt as an administrator and enter these commands

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns

And run MS’s Fixit to reset the Hosts File as it could have left some websites in there http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034

Check Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings button. Make sure the box next to “Use a proxy server ….” is no checked.

Thank you for your helpful replies. The Lounge is proving to be a lot more helpful than the Lockergnome forum of which I was a part – goodness, twelve years ago!

Anyway, the removal of the adapter through Device Manager and the Actions | Scan for hardware changes restored things to ‘normal.’
