New to Macrium Reflect Home v8 and right away ran into problem attempting to boot USB rescue media on old Win7 32bit systems. No matter which PE choice I made, the boot from USB would always end up failing with Missing Operating System. Drove me up the wall for a good couple days.
The solution ended up being that I had to pre-format the USB using diskpart as described in
https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Preparing+a+USB+stick+for+Windows+PE
I had already done just fine with newer Win10 systems without running into this.
What made me suspicious is that I could create a bootable CD with PE10 that worked just fine on the old Win7 32bit machine.
Since I could create a working bootable CD, my next step was to create the rescue media as an ISO and then use Rufus to get a bootable USB – and that worked too.
Then I tried redoing the direct rescue media creation using the USB I had used with Rufus – and all of a sudden that worked too where it had always failed before.
The question was why it had gone from failing to working. I knew that Rufus formats the USB so that is what seemed most likely for what changed.
I have been a long time Acronis True Image user and was given Macrium Reflect a try based on the popularity among AskWoody members. Needless to say, Macrium Reflect gave me a run for my money. Now that I am past my rescue media problem, I will continue with my MR learning experience.
