Trying to attach a text data file to a Word mail merge document.

Hi Dale:
It could be that you have corruption in the datasource. When you paste the text, you are pasting into a different document. Why don’t you create a new document with your data from the datasource & see if that helps.

I don’t think so, Phil, because if I try to reattach the newly created text file as the data file for the same merge document, I get the same error. The only way I can get the data attached is by creating a new file and copying the contents in.

That’s strange. If I have this straight, you have a mail merge main document. It won’t let you attach a datasource. It will only let you create a new datasource, at which time you can paste the entire contents of your original datasource. This sounds like some sort of corruption in the main document then.

Is it possible for you to upload this in a zip file?

The attached zip file contains one of the merge documents the problem occurs with, plus the data file.

I took a look at the file. I played around with it. I converted the main document into a regular Word doc. I reattached the datasource. I unattached it & moved it. Then attached it again. I had no problems.

The only fields I didn’t have were the DocVariable fields.

I’ve experimented a bit more, and discovered that (like you) I can move the files to a different system (standalone PC) and the problem goes.
